New Practice Opening Times
Commencing 2nd January 2012 the medical practice will now close at 5:30pm, Dalriada Urgent Care will now be available for emergencies from 5:30pm each evening. Wednesday will still be half day close at 1:00pm. The latest apointment offered in the evening will now be 5:00pm.
Texting Service
At the minute the practice is looking into new software to enable us to send out for you via a text message rather than a letter. In order for this to be efficient we need to have your mobile number recorded. If attending the surgery please inform the reception staff of any new mobile numbers or check we have your mobile number recorded.
Emis Access - Tired of not getting through on the phone, why not ask for details of the services provided online. You can order a prescription or book an appointment with the Practice Nurse or GP when it suits you.
An appointment system is now in operation for the treatment rooms, please contact the surgery before attending to ensure there will be a nurse available.
Training
The practice provides training for doctors, medical, nursing and administration students. They can be attached to the practice for periods ranging from three weeks to one year. They are bound by a code of confidentiality and, with your approval, these medical personnel will sit in during your consultations with the doctor. We are very grateful for your co-operation.
Research
Broughshane Medical Practice is involved in medical research. From time to time you may be asked if you would like to participate in an appropriate piece of research. Any participation is greatly appreciated but you are not expected to take part unless you wish to do so.
Patient Voluntary Equiptment Fund
This practice and the people of this area are indeed indebted to the above fund for modern emergency equipment not provided in general practice by the NHS. The equipment is freely available to other doctors and their patients working in the area.
Service Changes - We are now offering additional clinics for Patients;
Osteoporosis Clinics - for all females over 50 years of age who have had a hip or non hip fragility fracture in the past, this is to assess if they are receiving the correct treatment and receive advise on Bone Health and prevention of falls.
Doppler Clinics - for all patients who smoke and are aged over 55 to assess if they are at risk of developing Peripheral Vascular and Cardio Vascular Disease.
Mild to Moderate Depression - We have an in-house counsellor Mr Peter Mulhall, referrals to this service are made by the GP.
Learning Disability - A special appointment to review the care and management of patients with learning difficulties will be established during the coming year, carers will be contacted by letter to make arrangements with Dr Michael Redmond and Mrs Sharon Espie who will provide the new service.
Travel Vaccinations including Yellow Fever - It is very important seek advice up to 3 months before you travel. Download from the website or collect from reception the risk assessment form prior to making an appointment at the Travel Clinic with either of the Practice Nurses. Some vaccines are on the NHS others are Private and must be paid for, the receptionist will advise you.
